Medical Insurance

Medical InsuranceAdequate health protection is vital. Why? To eliminate the need for public hospital care and waiting lists and to aid in the recovery if a claim is made under the Trauma or Disability Income benefits.

In New Zealand the need to take out cover for healthcare is becoming more important, particularly as we see increasing funding pressures being faced by public hospitals and reductions in some outpatient benefits that were previously provided by the Government. The impact on the high cost area of in-patient care has resulted in a reduction in services and increasing waiting lists in public hospitals.

Private Hospitals now offer a much wider range of services, service standards are generally much higher and patients have some choice in which specialist they want to see.

In the light of the huge number of people waiting for “elective surgery” in New Zealand we would recommend you seriously consider Private Health Cover. Simply click here if you would like to discuss your options with us.

Often people will say the public system will support me and it will if you fall down in the street or collapse with something that must be treated immediately to save your life. But if it can wait you will.

The key consideration then is how the wait for such an operation is going to affect your family and the individual needing the operation. What is debilitating and serious to all of us, if it is not chronic ends up in a queue in our public system.

Types of Wellness Management covers available to you – Tools for Protection

Major Medical: A health insurance product that provides benefits to a high limit for most medical and surgical expenses incurred in hospital. There is an option to take a deductible or excess on the policy, which will reduce premiums.

Specialists and Tests: This type of product is often provided as a rider to Major Medical insurance. It usually covers any outpatient specialist consultations and diagnostic tests. Often Specialist visits and diagnostic tests can be expensive and outside a person’s budget.

GP and Prescriptions: Traditionally covered in New Zealand under “Comprehensive” health insurance policies.

Dental and Optical: This type of product is usually provided as a rider to other health contracts, either Major Medical or “Comprehensive”.
