John began his career in the New Zealand Police Force and spent 4 years gaining life skills that no other form of education could give him. John then had 3 years in the building industry before running his own retail business for 14 years, Van Helden Gallery, which had two locations, one in Days Bay and the other in Lambton Quay. The galleries were sold in 2001 and an opportunity arose to work with his brother Jamie at Advice Financial. John has a passion for people and is committed to helping clients achieve their personal and business financial goals.

John is a member of the Institute of Financial Advisers (IFA). The Institute's primary focus is to improve and enhance the professional status of financial planners and insurance advisers, and to advance the interests of members and their clients.
